Norway is well known for its amazing and varied scenery. The gulfs, many high mountains on both sides, in the west are long and narrow. Norway was an old Viking kingdom. Economically it is known for its oil and seafood exports. Norway is a country with low population which is about only 4.76 million while it's land area is as equal as Great Britain and Germany, about 385,155 square kilometers. In winter, cross-country skiing, alpine skiing and snowboarding are very popular. In summer, hiking and biking are good sports. For some people who love adventure, kayaking, rafting, cave or glacier exploration are good choices. Car tourists usually enjoy driving along the gulf and mountains. In short, Norway has a lot to offer you in terms of nature. Norwegians are very proud of their national parks which they strive to keep unspoiled.

Some people say you've never really experienced Europe till it's blanketed in Snow... which is really something amazing that many can't put into words. The pace is relaxing with touristy areas winding down. With that said, take advantage of these places and see them without the tourist rush to really enjoy Europe as a winter wonderland. For Oslo, a small capital by most measures, with a mere 500,000 people, has a surprisingly large collection of good museums - most of them easily accessible from the city center and, with the Oslo Pass in hand, inexpensive to boot - as well as a wealth of Scandinavian architecture, both historic and modern.

Svalbard is famous for its big population of polar bears. It is also famous for its wild arctic scenery and beautiful landscape with many seabirds, seals, walruses, and other marine mammals. For good reasons a number of impressive photo books have been published about Svalbard, but only few tourists come to Svalbard. Tourists to Svalbard go by boat (cruise ships) or by plane. I only have experience with travelling by plane which is a convenient flight from Oslo. Since Svalbard is part of Norway and thus part of the Scandinavian cooperation it is possible to use bonus tickets from Scandinavian Airlines to fly the long distance from another Scandinavian country.

Speaking of Norway, people can naturally bring the world famous novel to mind. There are many mountains in Norway. All kinds of villages are seated among the mountains. Between the villages are just the forests which are far away or nearby as if they are waiting for something. The forests of birches and firs which are both thin and thick are neither secretive like the virgin forest in image nor profound like the description by the authors. It is said that the original meaning of Oslo is "the valley of God" while another meaning is" plain of the foot of mountain". Oslo leans close to the circuitous firth of Oslo. Being viewed from a high place, it is surrounded tightly by the sea and the forest. The forest is endless.
